Hair colouring: tips and advice

No science fiction when it comes to hair colouring, but I've been dying my hair for about 10 years now and I have some tips, tricks and advice how to colour your hair. :)

Some og the hair colours I had in last 2 years.

1. Day before colouring
Prepare your hair for colouring. Wash your hair one day before actual colouring, this will get rid of all the dirt in your hair and scalp, this way colour will hold on to your hair better. Don't use any oils, hair sprays etc. after washing. Just shampoo, condition, rinse and let them dry. Also, this way you won't have to wash your hair with a shampoo when you rinse your hair colour out. Hair colour should penetrate for few days before next hair washing anyways (2-3 days). I suggest you wash your hair in the evening and dye them in next day in the morning.

Another tip before hair coloring is to hydrate your hair - use a hair mask, I suggest massaging olive or coconut oil in your hair and scalp, let it sit for at least 2 hours and rinse. Make sure you wash out your hair real well, so there are no excessive oils in your hair, this way hair colour can grasp better.

2. Colouring day
No fancy advice here ... :)

Wear an old T-shirt you won't miss if you accidentaly apply colour on it. Remove all objects and carpets in a place where are you dying your hair. Apply thicker moisturizer around your forehead, on ears and neck, so colour is easier to remove if you accidentally apply it there. Ask someone to help you if you are having hard time doing it yourself. Go to hairdresser if you have no clue what are you doing :).

The easiest way for me to colour my hair is pouring colour into a bowl (which I have only for hair colouring and it's an old plastic bowl) and using a brush for more even application. Of course don't forget to wear pair of gloves to protect you hands.
Like I said, don't shampoo after you rinse the colour out, just use hair conditioner, leave it for few minutes and rinse again.

3. After colouring
Don't wash your hair every day. Not just that it is not healthy for you scalp, but it also rinses and fades your hair colour faster. When you wash your hair, make sure you are using cold to lukewarm water. Cold water prevents excessive rinsing and hot water can also change your hair colour (brown, especially ombre, can become more red, red becomes orange etc.). So, if you want to fade your hair colour, use hot water :). I don't suggest washing your hair while showering if you can't tolerate cold water though :)

Do you have any other tips, tricks or advice for hair colouring? Do you colour your hair?
I hope you find this post helpful and have a nice day. :)

Saturday Fitness Tip: What can I do when I crave sugar?

As you may know, I've started with "no sugar challenge" 2 weeks ago. Those 2 weeks were great, no major cravings, been eating clean and I added detoxifying foods to my diet every day.
You can read last Saturday Fitness Tip post here.

But what can you do when you crave something sweet sooooo badly?? I have some tips what to do when you crave sugar:

1. Drink loads of water, you can add lemon juice to it and water will fill you up. If I would eat something on stomach full of water I would probably feel sick and I don't want that.

2. If I eat something with artificial sweeteners in it, highly processed foods, I will feel sick and my stomach will hurt the next day or even the same day. My body is so used to healthy eating that it "pays me back" with sickness and I feel gross! I try to remember that feeling of sickness and eat something nutritional instead.

3. Whenever I crave sweets, I know that I'm stressed or my mind is not calm. So I suggest you try to calm your mind with meditation. With that I don't mean 15, 20 or 30 minutes meditation, sometimes even 5 minutes can do magic. Stop whatever your doing, close your eyes and try not to think about anything or visualise yourself in a place where you feel the happiest - for me that is nature, especially forest, beach or looking at waterfall.
You can google to educate yourself more about meditation or how to release stress.

4. Eat fruit instead! Fruit contain natural fructose and give our body nutrients, energy and they are overall really good tasting. Artificial sweeteners don't give our body anything - just empty calories and are main cause of many diseases (cancer, diabetes etc.). Also, try to incorporate some protein with your fruit intake. I eat 8 almonds with my apple, one tsp of peanut butter (natural, without sugar and salt) with my banana ... Fruit is still sugar, protein source help you to stabilise your blood sugar whenever you eat piece of fruit. But if you don't have any protein source on the reach of your hand, eat just piece of fruit, never skip meals. Ever!

5. Eat dry fruits instead of candy. I always make sure I buy the ones without any added sugar, no preservatives or other nasty ingredients. Pure dried fruit. If you can't get it pure, than don't even buy it in the first place. I love dates, they are super sweet and I usually take 3-5 and I'm full, and they satisfy my craving.

6. This may sound silly but it helps - educate yourself about sugar and other foods. What is sugar causing to our bodies, how to stop craving it etc. I recommend book 'Suicide by sugar' written by Nancy Appleton. And I also randomly search through google to find some useful information. Yes, Google is my best amigo! ;)

7. Make your own healthy recipes and substitute artificial sweeteners with natural sweeteners, such as coconut sugar (low glycemic index, I've read that is the best substitute for regular sugar, little bit more expensive, but food should be an investment anyways; I haven't tried it though), stevia or truvia, or you can also soak dates or raisins in water and use that sweet water to sweeten your desert.

8. Last but not least tip is ... eat before bed time. Yes, you've read that right. If you feel tired, grupy and without energy in the morning, main reason is probably that your blood sugar level is low and eating before bed can stabilise that and help you with your sugar cravings. Don't just indulge on anything, grab some sort of a vegetable and handful of nuts or a table spoon of natural nut butter. But keep in mind that everyone is different, to some this tip may works, to some it may not.

Another point is that, the longer you eat clean without any sugar involved, the less you'll crave it. First week might be the hardest, but then you'll feel like a whole new person. The best feeling ever is when you wake up energized! Yes, that is possible!!
If you are having problem with bloating, can't lose last 5 kgs, have skin break outs, allergies, you're ill all the time ... cutting down sugar can do magic.

I hope this post was helpful to some and please share your tips how do you "kill" your sugar cravings. :)

Have a healthy Saturday and be happy ;)

Unusual beauty tip: many uses of an eyeshadow primer

Ah, eyeshadow primer ... makes my life much less complicated :D. I have hooded lids and eyeshadows crease on me in no time. But you can use your eyeshadow primer in many other ways. Let's find out how :)

1. When you apply your eye primer on your lid, make sure you apply it on your lower lashline as well if you intend to put any shadows or pencil there. It will prevent smudging all over your face.

2. Use it as a base before you fill in your brows. If you apply eyeshadow or brow shadow on your brows, it will stay on longer if you apply primer on your brows first. I do that especially whenever I do black brows for weekly tag or any other crazy look.

3. Apply it around your lips to prevent lipstick from smudging. I thought this "technique" by Petite Sal, when she posted a tutorial how to get perfect red lips (check it out here: click). Primer around your lips is actually like a lip liner, an invisible lip liner and it prevents smudging your lipstick!

4. Have some fine smiling lines around your lips? You can apply your eyeshadow primer there before foundation if you don't want to use all over face primer, this will smooth out that area and prevent foundation from getting in those lines! Make sure eyeshadow primer is matte, you don't want any unwanted shimmer around your lips.

5. You can also use it as a concealer if primer is in "concealer color" and has no shimmer.

If you have any other ideas how to use an eyeshadow primer and how do you use it, please, share it with the world in a comment ;)
Thank you for reading!

Better looking skin without skin care PART 2

I already posted "Get a better looking skin without skin care" a while ago (you can read it here), but some of you mentioned some other points in the comments and I came up with some points, so I decided to do part 2 :).

1. Eat clean. Processed food is toxic for your body and that also shows in your skin (sooner or later). Eat a lot of fresh veggies, fruits, healthy fats, lean protein, good carbs ... Unhealthy diet can cause many skin issues - pimples, acne, premature aging, dry skin, skin doesn't have any "glow", etc. You get the picture.

2. Of course, drinking plenty of water is also important. Drinking water helps you clear up your skin, flushes out toxins, hydrates your skin and gives overall healthy glow. But remember that doesn't happen overnight, try to drink only water for a week (with healthy balanced diet of course) and you will see good effects on your skin already. Sugary drinks, sodas, sweetened juices are a no-no.

3. Avoid alcohol, drugs and smoking. Alcohol dehydrates your whole body, causes dull looking skin, enlarges blood vessels, irritates the skin, blemishes and blotchy bumps appear, causes wrinkles ...
Don't do drugs, drugs are bad, mmm-kay? (big South Park fan :)). Have you seen what happened to Lindsey Lohan?
And have you ever seen smoker with beautiful dewy skin without deep wrinkles? (someone who smokes for longer period of time) ... I thought so.

4. You won't believe it, but exercising helps, too. It increases blood flow, which nourishes skin cells and keeps them vital. Defined muscles help you look better overall, too. :)

5. Protect your skin from the sun, you don't want skin cancer and premature aging, do you? Don't sunbathe for a long period of time, stay hydrated when you are out in the sun, wear sunglasses and Ph-balanced sun screen.

6. Last but not least, is face yoga and massage. Gravitation is a bitch, isn't it? Face yoga and massaging  help with blood circulation, your skin gets tighter, reduces cellulite, prevents wrinkles, stretchmarks ...

Do you have any more ideas/suggestions how to get a better looking skin? Share them with me in a comment section, share them on facebook or tweet them to me, would love to hear them! :)

Unusual tips: Look slimmer in less than a minute

Yes, you've read it right. You can look slimmer and fitter super quick. And that doesn't mean you can use those tips every single day, you will still have to lose weight to be healthier, lighter and fit, if that's what you want :).

1. Stand straight! Good posture is so important not just to look slimmer, also to prevent any back pain, and to keep your breast in right position :). Keep those shoulders back and tummy in. You will instantly see that you look slimmer from the side view. I need to practice this more often, I am like Quasimodo sometimes.

2. I have never own body shaper, but I've heard that from Victoria Secret is a good one. Hide those muffin tops and get into that pencil skirt for a special occasion. :)

3. Last but not least tip is to wear heels. They are such great body shapers. They elongate your legs (I need longer legs in my life :)) and make them slimmer, shape your bum and of course make you taller. When you wear heels, you will more likely stand straight, because you looks more glamorous if you stand tall in heels, so it's a double win :).

Heels can be comfortable too. My new wedge-sneakers from asos.

Do you have any other tips how to look slimmer super fast?
Hope this helps to some of you <3

Better looking skin without skin care

Well, yes, of course, skin care is important, especially if you wear makeup on daily basis. I don't know about you, but my skin is so unforgiving. Sometimes, I went to bed with makeup and my skin was dry and patchy in the morning as never before. Now I always remove my makeup before bed time and my skin feels so much better and it feels refreshed. Today, I won't talk about skin care, although I mean to do that in near future, but I will talk about little things that can help your skin looking better. Hope you'll find those tips useful.

1. (As I already mentioned:) Remove you makeup before bed time. Let your skin regenerate and let it breath when you're sleeping.

2. Clean your brushes. I've seen huge difference, when I started cleaning my brushes more frequently. Before I was like: "I use the same colours all the time, face brushes are not even dirty!" But then I got so many pimples for unknown reason. With clean brushes I don't have that much pimples, so I guess dirty brushes were the reason for my breakouts. And sanitizing your makeup can help, too.

3. Clean your phone with rubbing alcohol. If you ever noticed you get breakouts only on one side of your face, it's probably because you put your dirty phone on this side. You put your phone in a hand bag, on the table, touch it with dirty hands, put it on your face, it falls on the floor etc. Can you imagine how many bacteria that is? Every night I put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton bud and clean my phone with it.

4. This one is hard for me, but I avoid touching my face. Your hands are never 100 % bacteria free, so don't touch your face when your already touched billion things.

5. This one relates to dirty hands ... Don't squeeze your pimples. If you must do it, do it the right way. Squeezing your pimples causes even more bacteria growth, damage on your skin and pain.

6. Get you hair out of your face. You put all different chemicals in your hair, you fix them with dirty hands. I know it's hard to not have any hair on your face, but then at least clean it more often and don't use too much chemicals.

7. Last but not least, change your pillow case quite often. Pillow cases are a great place for bacteria: dirty hair, makeup on your face, it touches your face ... I usually turn it on the other side when I wash my hair and change it every other time I wash it.

Unusual beauty tips: many uses of a lip balm

One day I came up with an idea, that I could start new blog post series, where I share unusual/weird beauty tips: how can you use one products in many other ways or something similar.

Today I will present you many uses of a lip balm. Let's start :)

1. If you can use your lip balm on your dry lips, you can definitely use them on other dry areas of your body, on your elbows and knees for instance. Apply as a normal cream, recommend before bed time, that's when skin is regenerating and lip balm is very thick, it may bother you during the day. Also, if you have any dry spots on your face, apply it on these areas.

2. You can use it as a under eye cream. Skin around eyes is very delicate, so we have to take extra care of it. Apply it on your under eye area, and tap it a little bit with your ring finger to spread it evenly. Apply it before sleep, let it absorb over night.

3. Prevent wrinkles! Apply it on face areas where you have some wrinkles (or are wrinkles in the making!) before bed. For me, those areas are my forehead and smiling lines. I smiler too much, I guess :D.

4. You can also use it as an eyebrow wax. Apply some lip balm on your finger and go over your eyebrows. Shape them in place, you can even help yourself with a spoolie brush.

Do you know any other uses of a lip balm? Leave them in comment section, would love to hear! :)

Hope this post was helpful to some of you, especially if you're living on a budget or travelling and don't want to take one million products with you :).

Have a lovely day/night :),

TAG: 10 little secrets

I love watching tag videos :). And because I don't film YouTube videos (but I have been thinking about starting making them ... hmm?), the only way to answer the questions in thorough my blog. So let's begin ...

1. What is one product that makes you feel like a million dollars?
I don't really have any high brand products. So I must say a highlighter, because I think it gives such a youthful glow to my face and looks so good in pictures! Even if I don't wear a blusher, I highlight my cheeks, underneath my eyebrows and down the nose. I have no favourite highlighter, sometimes I even use a shimmery eyeshadow.

2. What is your skin care secret?
I always take off makeup before sleep. I don't wipe my face in a towel, I wipe it in a paper towel and throw it away.

3. Share your hair care secret.
Olive oil does wonders for your hair (and skin). Recipes to come!

4. What is your biggest diet rule?
I eat breakfast every single day. I can't start a day right without any food in the morning and hot cup of green tea. And I avoid muffins, cakes, cookies ... anything sweet in general, because I don't know how to just try things just to taste them and always end up overeating, which make me sick in the shortest time possible. I haven't eaten anything sugar-y from January, I think. Only honey and fruits. And I drink lots of water. LOTS!

5. Any workout tips?
I do short, but intense workouts, I give it my maximum, I sweat, nearly cry and push hard! After the stretching and shower I feel super energized and happy :). And if I workout in sexy clothes I feel more confident and usually give it my best :).
Bodyrocker and Warrior for life! :)

6. Which perfume is your secret weapon?
I don't really have any real perfumes, only eau de toilette. I prefer summery, citrus-y, fresh scents all over the year. I had my favourite scent from Avon, it was called Winked, but they don't sell it anymore. :/
Dolce n Gabbana Light Blue smells incredible, but I don't want to buy it because they test on animals ...

7. Show us a clothing item of yours which always turns heads?
I think I turn more heads with my hairstyle and makeup (I don't really do night time or day time appropriate, I wear whatever I like :)). I don't really wear any clothes that stand out.. I think? :D

8. What is your most treasured piece of jewellery?
My three silver rings I wear all the time on my left hand. I feel so lost and naked without them! :)

9. Who is your style crush?
I really had to think about this one ... I think Rihanna has an amazing style and can look good even in a potato sack. And singer Dev has amazing style to me. I think I prefer street style over celebrity style though ... Reading blogs about style (Nymphette415 has an amazing style, and she is such a doll, always replies on every tweet and comment on YouTube; and Slađi from Indestructible Style has a breathtaking style) and seeing stylish people on street inspire me more than celebrities.

10. Tell us something we don't know about you.
There are so many things I haven't shared with you guys ...
I hate winter, because when I'm cold I get grumpy and bitchy ... :D I'd rather be hot than cold. I don't ski, I don't find snow amusing at all :D Spring and summer ftw!

I won't tag any specific people, so I just tag everyone!

Good night!

xoxo Deja
