Hair colouring: tips and advice

No science fiction when it comes to hair colouring, but I've been dying my hair for about 10 years now and I have some tips, tricks and advice how to colour your hair. :)

Some og the hair colours I had in last 2 years.

1. Day before colouring
Prepare your hair for colouring. Wash your hair one day before actual colouring, this will get rid of all the dirt in your hair and scalp, this way colour will hold on to your hair better. Don't use any oils, hair sprays etc. after washing. Just shampoo, condition, rinse and let them dry. Also, this way you won't have to wash your hair with a shampoo when you rinse your hair colour out. Hair colour should penetrate for few days before next hair washing anyways (2-3 days). I suggest you wash your hair in the evening and dye them in next day in the morning.

Another tip before hair coloring is to hydrate your hair - use a hair mask, I suggest massaging olive or coconut oil in your hair and scalp, let it sit for at least 2 hours and rinse. Make sure you wash out your hair real well, so there are no excessive oils in your hair, this way hair colour can grasp better.

2. Colouring day
No fancy advice here ... :)

Wear an old T-shirt you won't miss if you accidentaly apply colour on it. Remove all objects and carpets in a place where are you dying your hair. Apply thicker moisturizer around your forehead, on ears and neck, so colour is easier to remove if you accidentally apply it there. Ask someone to help you if you are having hard time doing it yourself. Go to hairdresser if you have no clue what are you doing :).

The easiest way for me to colour my hair is pouring colour into a bowl (which I have only for hair colouring and it's an old plastic bowl) and using a brush for more even application. Of course don't forget to wear pair of gloves to protect you hands.
Like I said, don't shampoo after you rinse the colour out, just use hair conditioner, leave it for few minutes and rinse again.

3. After colouring
Don't wash your hair every day. Not just that it is not healthy for you scalp, but it also rinses and fades your hair colour faster. When you wash your hair, make sure you are using cold to lukewarm water. Cold water prevents excessive rinsing and hot water can also change your hair colour (brown, especially ombre, can become more red, red becomes orange etc.). So, if you want to fade your hair colour, use hot water :). I don't suggest washing your hair while showering if you can't tolerate cold water though :)

Do you have any other tips, tricks or advice for hair colouring? Do you colour your hair?
I hope you find this post helpful and have a nice day. :)

How to grow your hair faster & extensions

As you may know, I'm still growing my undercut, you can check out a post here. It got quite long in short amount of time, so I'll introduce to you today how I did it and how you can "cheat" to have long hair. :) I'll do reviews on other products I used for growth stimulation separately.
Let's just start.

1. Best and really effective way to stimulate hair growth is by massaging your scalp. It doesn't really matter what kind of product you use, as long as you massage it with your finger tips. Never use your nails, because you can damage you scalp and or you can irritate it. You can use your method with you hair shampoo, hair oils or any other hair products that can be applied to your scalp. I would recommend at least few minutes of massaging every time you wash your hair.

Current length.

2. For even better hair growth stimulation, you can use hair products that stimulate hair growth. They are plenty out there on the market, so do your research. I recommend using natural hair products, because a lot of them have harsh chemicals and can do you more harm than good in the long run.

Ex undercut. Left: March, right: August

3. Another great hair gowth stimulation tip is to eat healthy and exercise regularly. When your nourishing your body, it pays you with healthy hair, nails, skin etc.. Never diet, because most diets won't give you enough important nutrients. Eat food high in fiber, healthy fats and full of vitamins. Exercising lowers stress levels, helps you sleep better and helps your body process foods and vitamins.

4. Or if everything from above fails or you're too lazy :), you can get hair extensions. I have never tried hair extensions before, but I want to try them out.
I was contacted by http://www.besthairbuy.com/, and they have quite a lot of variety. They are selling 100 % natural human hair extensions, which I think is quite important, so you can treat and style them as your natural hair. Another great point about them is that they are "clip in", so there's no damage on your natural hair, because you don't have to glue them.
You can check out their 24 inch clip in hair extensions here and select one for yourself: http://www.besthairbuy.com/24-inch-clip-in-hair-extensions/.

Do you have any other ideas how to stimulate your hair growth?
Have you ever tried hair extensions? What are your thoughts of them, because I would really like to know.

New hair style - how to grow an undercut

Recently I decided to start growing out my undercut and grow my hair little bit longer. It's been a while since I had longer hair and I had shaved right side for over a year. I don't know about you, but I like trying new hair styles. So, I went to my oh-so-lovely hairdresser, been going to the same place for about 7-ish years now, never disappoints me.

So, what can you really do when you have shaved one side of your head. Well I changed my part, so I won't have to go through "ugly phases", right side can be hidden and grow long and healthy :). My haircut is now bob, with shorter hair in the back. My hairdresser said that P!nk is rocking something similar atm, and I'm always up for something crazy and different :).

I'm also using Fitoval shampoo for faster growth, I will to do in-depth review, but I can tell you right now that I think it's working. I can see how much my hair grows because I have dyed hair and it's been one month since I coloured. And my hair grows pretty fast naturally.

Now to the pictures (and excuse moi for chipped polish! It's a sign of hard working hands! ;)):

And that's how long my undercut side is now. It grows quite fast.

I still feel weird having hair on both sides of my head and having my part on the other side, but I'll get used to it eventually.

Anyways, I don't think this post will be helpful to many, but maybe someone needs an idea to grow an undercut without ugly phases :)

Happy Tuesday!

My hair - my hair style, care and colour

Let's talk about my hair today :). It was requested, and I get questions about my hair colour and about my hair in general, so here I (hope) answer all your questions.

Firstly, let's talk about my hair in general.
I have quite thick hair, my natural colour is I would say medium brown (my undercut hair colour is my natural colour) and it gets lighter in summer time. They are quite straight, they just have this natural "wave" at the ends. They can get frizzy, grow pretty fast and scalp is kinda sensitive.

Now let's take a look of my haircut.
I actually shaved my right side last December, but I had much shorter haircut, I had pretty short hair all summer. My left side is quite long now, I actually want it even longer. I go for a trim every two months and I try to shave my undercut every two weeks, it's 9mm atm (well, it has grown from last week's haircut). I shave it myself or I go to my hair stylist. I've been going to the same hair stylist for 7 years now, it's the only person I trust when it comes to hair cutting.

This is how my hair looks from the back.

And left side is kinda bob-ish.

My current hair colour is blond, I was actually pretty scared before dying it, I haven't been blonde for 8 years. I used Smart Beauty Smart Blonde permanent toners in Beach Blonde (bought it here). I left it in my hair for 30 minutes (it says you leave it for 30 - 60 minutes) and it came out more yellowish then I expected, but it was wearable, so I left it that way. I coloured my hair again before surgery, but this time I used Revlon hair colour (I can't remember which shade, sorry), it was too late to order Smart Beauty one online. I don't recommend Revlon, it's washing out like crazy and it didn't cover my roots. Smart Beauty stayed the same shade for whole month, so I recommend their colours. I'll write a review when I colour my hair again.

Lastly, my hair care is pretty simple. I don't like putting a lot of hair products in my hair, like I said I have sensitive scalp and I don't like the feeling of having a lot of products in my hair. Currently I'm using and loving Lavera shampoo Milde pflege, it's calms down any itchiness I might have on my scalp and it cleans my hair nicely. My hair conditioner is also from Lavera Glanz & Volumen Haarspülung. It leaves my hair super soft and shiny. This is my basic hair routine. I wash my hair every two days or three, I exercise on regular basis, so my hair gets dirty pretty quick.

I'm also testing out Lee Stafford hair growth treatment, can't tell you much about it, but it makes my hair super soft. My favourite "hair mask" has to be regular extra virgin olive oil, I massage it in my hair and leave it for an hour or two or over night. I also love virgin coconut oil for my hair. The best way is that you warm up the oil (not too much, you don't want to burn yourself) and then massage it for at least 5 minutes (the more the better, massaging your scalp stimulates growth) and put a cap or plastic bag over your head, then wash your hair as you normally would.

Another product I'm testing right now is Keune care line Leave-in hair repair, I think it works well with my frizzy hair. The smell is also nice. And yet another product I'm testing out is Lee Stafford Dry shampoo for days I don't wash my hair. I don't really have oily roots, but it gives me nice volume, smells nice and it freshens my hair.

I always blow dry my hair when I wash it, otherwise they are all over the place and I can't really do anything with them. I use round brush when I blow dry it and for everyday use, I use another round brush with rougher bristles for teasing, if I need any volume and regular comb for everyday use.

Hope this helps to some of you :)
