Products that suck #3

Haven't written a post about regret purchases in a while. Let's just say that when I find something that works, I'll probably stick to it for a whilem that's why I don't have a lot regretable purchases. But then I went through my stash and found some things that didn't work for me and forgot about them, so here they are.

Bare in mind that whatever doesn't work for me, it may work for you, it's the same other way around.

I have dry, sensitive skin and I break out quite easily. In hope to help me with my breakouts I bought Afrodita Young & Pure Deep Cleansing gel + peeling + mask for normal to oily skin. I used it on the certain areas where I tent to break out more, but it broke me out even more and it really dried out my skin. But I would recommend it for oily and acne prone skin, it might work for you. If you have dry skin, stay away from it! :)

I am searching for a new moisturizer, because still haven't found one I would be 100% satisfied with and going through every moisturizer in a drug store I ended up purchasing Olay Anti-wrinkle Nature fusion night cream. Just because it was on sale and just because most people compliment Olay products. That desperate purchase didn't end up well. Once I apply the cream I have a feeling that it just sits on my skin and it doesn't do anything. I even noticed more cloged pores and more black heads.

Another dissapointment has to be Alverde hair mask (glanz-haarkur Zitronenblüte Aprikose). It just didn't do anything to my hair and that's all I have to say about it. At least I can use it as a shaving cream.

I even have few polishes that I don't like, but I still use them, because I secretly cheer for them to get better :D

First one is Kleancolor Nail laquer 236 Chunky holo black. I ordered it few years ago on eBay, because it looked beautiful on pictures, but when I got it I couldn't open it, after awhile I finally did it and the product itself is really thick, has gel-like consistency, once applied takes forever to dry and it chips really fast.

Second one I didn't like is Ruby kisses HDP18 Whiter than White. Brush is terrible (bristles are some sort of a plastic, really uneven), extremely clumsy, the polish smells 10 times worse than any polish I've tried and it just doesn't want to dry once applied.
Are all Ruby kisses polishes like that?

Last one that doesn't work for me is Catrice Quick Dry & High shine Top coat. I know it gives shine, but quick dry? Nah. Now I don't even use any top coat to finish my manicure, just because nothing worked for me and the more coats I apply, the faster polish chips.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts on them?

Saturday fitness post: Counting calories

If counting calories works for you and it's nor driving you mental, good for you, but I will give you some good reasons why you should stop counting them.

Counting calories limits bad AND good food. For example: you eliminate junk/fast food and processed meat (sausages) out of your diet, but you also elimanate nuts and seeds, avocado, healthy fats in general, which are essential for our health and overall well being. Burn all the low fat diet books, please! :) 100 cals of lean protein or 100 cals of carbohydrate or 100 cals of alcohol are not the same. They have different effect on your hormones and metabolic rate. Quality food determines your energy levels, health and physique.

Source: Pinterest.
Real food doesn't need to be packaged, but when you are counting calories, you may be encouraged to eat packaged (processed) food, because it already has all information about calories (fyi: nutritional labels can be off 20 %) and you don't need to search nutritional facts on the internet and lose precious time. Which leads to another point - counting calories does not guarantee you're getting enough nutrients you need in a day. Like I said: 100g of veggies is not the same as 100g of hamburger.

Your body is extremely intelligent, it's already equipped to tell you when to eat and what to eat. With counting calories you ignore your natural satiety cues. For example: you already had all the calories for a day, you have a workout in the evening, but afterwards you don't eat anyting just because you already had all the calories for that day, even though your body tells you it need something to eat. Bare in mind that your body is not a bank (it doesn't have a system inside that will count how many calories you had ;)) and if it needs food, provide your body the food it needs. Some days we need more food, some days we need less, depends on how active, inactive we are or what are we doing in a day.

Source: Pinterest.

Fewer calories you consume, body burns fewer calories - if you consume more good quality calories, your body burns more calories. If you undereat on good calories and if you overeat/undereat on bad food, less calories you burn. Calorie restriction in the long term will slow down your metabolism and will not help you maintain weight/fat loss in the long term.

Do you count calories?

2013 favourites

I've been avoiding to finish this post, because I knew it will take me quite some time to write, but it's January is flying by so quickly and it's about time I publish it ... let's start :)

Cosmetics:

I am not oily, but sometimes if I wear makeup all day, I get little bit shiny and it's nice to have a primer underneath to prevent that. MUA Matte perfect primer does its job and I really loke it. I'm a huge fan of Bourjois Healthy Mix collection and last year I started using Bourjois Healthy mix serum. It's light, gives me dewy finish and it stays on me quite long. I usually don't powder my whole face, but I set my foundation around the eyes, around my lips and I even use powder as natural eyeshadow to set eyeshadow primer. Catrice All matt plus Shine control powder does a great job with all that.

Skin care discovery for my face has to be Alverde Clear Waschcreme. It removed my makeup and cleans my face perfectly and it's super gentle. Another skin care product I loved in 2013 is Balea Aqua serum, I just ran out of it, that's why it's not in the picture :). For my hair I've been loving Balea Oil repair spulung (conditioner). Makes my hair super soft and shiny. Deodorant I really liked was Felce Azzura Deo spray. It's in spray form, it's great to refresh during the day and this green scent is the only one I like from their line.

I cannot live without eyeliner and mascara, in 2013 I really liked Essence Liquid ink liquid eyeliner in waterproof form. Just be careful not to apply too much otherwise it will start to peel off. Another liner I liked was Catrice Gel eyeliner Black Jack with Jack Black, even though it's not the blackest liner out there. Stays on its place whole day, it even lasted me pretty decent amount of time. Gel liner tent to dry pretty fast. Mascara of the year has to be Isa Dora Big Bold Super volumizing mascara, which I won in IsaDora giveaway on Twitter. The wand is big and can be messy on lower lashes, but if applied carefully it did its job. Nice volume, length and intensity. Last couple of month I've been using only Catrice eye brow pencil for my lashes. As you can see on the picture, I need a new one ;) I don't have a full name or name of the shade, but I think it's the darkest one. I can't apply eyeshadow if I haven't applied primer first and I really liked Avon eye primer. It's beyond amazing.

Most used lipsticks have to be Ingrid 242, MUA lipstick Shade 11 and Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stain Smitten.

Nails:

Best base coat is OPI Natural Nail Base coat. This is the best base coat I tried and I think it even dries my colour polish faster. Other favourite polishes have to be: Essie Aruba blue, Essie Sole Mate and Barry M Racing Green.

Books:
I read quite some amazing books in 2013,  But first book that comes to my mind is from Cristy Žmahar called Nebesa odgovarjajo (Heaven response; only available in Slovenian atm). Here's a little description: click.

Music:
I'll have to go with whole newest album from Panic! at the Disco - Too weird to live To rare to die. You're probably sick and tired of me mentioning them, but I really do love them and still haven't gone sick and tired of their songs ;). You can listen to whole album on YouTube here.
Second album I really dig has to be from Fall Out Boy - Save Rock and Roll. Listen to whole album here.

Source: screenshot from their videos.

YouTube:
I discovered so many amazing YouTubers last year and I already shared that in my Favourite Youtubers post in December (here). My all time favourites have to be Claire Marshall (queen of editing and I probably re watched all her videos quite some times :D) and MadeYewLook (young talented positive girl, she also has her own brush set line).

Source: Pinterest.
Movies:
For movies I'll have to go with the two I saw in November/December, because those are the only ones I remember :D The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, of course. Jennifer Lawrence brought Katniss on a whole another level, fell in love with her even more and movie is much more understandable and it sticks to a book. And I watched it twice. In the cinema, yes. :)
Second one I really like was The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, because I love hobbits, elves, dragons and fantasy movies. :) And now I just remembered I got inspired to do one more makeup for The Hobbit makeup series ;)

Are my favourites your favourites too? :) Tell me what was your favourite product, music, series, book ... in 2013.

90's TAG [video]

I know I promised I'll be filming (more) YouTube videos, but I kinda failed at it. I filmed a video how I fill in my eyebrows 4 (or even 5) times and it was out of focus or I was covering my whole face with a mirror, unintentionally.
Anyways, Maja (click) posted yesterday 90's tag and I was like: "do a tag, Deja, you can't really f*ck up this kind of video." So I sat down and filmed today. I didn't really f*cked it up, but it's not the best, plus my camera is really loud and I don't see myself buying new camera anytime soon just because I don't think I'll be filming so regularly that I would need to upgrade.

Enough of chit chat, here's the video and please read description box! And subscribe if you'd like to ;)

I tag all 90's kids ;)

Saturday fitness post: Food diary

Diaries are such a great thing too have when you want to remember things, events, people you've met and ... to write down food you've eaten in a day.

Source: Pinterest.

Most people eat more than they realize, most of them even eat when they're not realizing it (snack while watching a movie) and keeping a food diary gives you an insight what you really eat. Write down every meal you had and how much (use your hands as a measuring guide), write down every candy, cookie, fries you ate ... Write down even how much water you had that day, write down every beverage you consumed, along with every sugar cube ;).

It may sound pathetic but sometimes such little things can sabotage your progress and you may ask yourself why you don't see any progress (progress can be loosing kilograms, centimeters, to fit better in clothes, feel better, get a better health ...). Little cheat meal every day may not sound a lot, but eating something "bad" every day is worse than eating one cheat meal per week. Reserve one day to have a cheat meal, it may be a birthday party, going to a cinema and having a popcorn, having a pizza date ... Other days eat clean and healthy.

Source: Pinterest.
You can get a little note book to track what you eat, write it in your phone or wherever you like. At the end of the week go through all meals you had and see where can you make a progress, where did you fail, see if you can eliminate/change something, drink more water etc..

I hope you find this tip helpful :)
Do you keep a food diary?

Makeup series: Harry Potter Hogwarts houses | RAVENCLAW

New makeup series, guys! And a little confession: I'm reading Harry Potter books for the first time. I mean, better late than never, right? :D Recently, Slovenian TV channel played all the movies and I got inspired to do Harry Potter inspired makeup. Inspired by the Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, creativity, learning and wit. The house mascote is an eagle, their colours are blue and bronze.

I mainly used blue, because blue is a colour of intelligence and wisdom. Bronze or should I say more natural shade was used on the lips.

Products used:
Bourjois Healthy Mix serum
Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer
Catrice All matt plus Shine control powder
Coastal Scents 88 palette (medium blue, dark blue)
Sleek palette Au naturel - Noir,, Bark
NYX Jumbo pencil Milk
Sleek palette Chaos
MUA eyeshadow shade 8
MAX false lashes
MUA lipstick Shade 11

Saturday Fitness Post: How to workout

Getting a little bit basic today. How to workout or should I call it "preparation" before workout.

Source: Pinterest.

1. Get your workout clothes on and get your hair out of the way. Wear comfortable and breathable clothes and trainers, because you'll sweat and your skin needs to breath. If you get all sticky and uncomfortable, you won't be able to give it your maximum.

2. Prepare bottle of water, workout note book, pen, workout equipment, exercise mat, towel ... Whatever you'll need during the workout, because you won't have time to reach for those items while exercising. It unnecessarily consumes time and distracts you. If you go to the gym, it's good to have all those items in there, so you avoid long preparations before going to the gym. Just grab it and go ;)

3. Plan out your routine for that day. I always write down in my notebook which exercises I'm doing and how they follow each other, this way I stay focused on a workout and rest between exercises is minimum - to take a sip of water if needed, to write down the reps and to prepare myself for next exercise.

Source: Pinterest
4. Turn off your mobile phone, computer, TV ... This is not time to talk to people, look at your Twitter or watch your favourite show/series/movie/YouTube videos ... Workout should be your alone time to give it 110 %, and to give that maximum, you have to be disconnected. Computer, phone or TV can be on only in case if you listen to the music to exercise to and if you're following a workout video :)

5. This one is optional, but preparing a post workout meal before an actual workout. Couple of days ago I did my stretching after a workout and still in my workout clothes I went to the kitchen an prepared everything for a meal, put veg into an oven and took a shower. After that dinner was served in 10 minutes :)

Do you have any more basic tips on "how to workout" or "how to prepare everything to workout"?

Have a lovely Saturday.

Ultraflesh shinebox Highlight and Shimmer Collection REVIEW

I received this lovely palette from StrawberryNet.com which was sent to me as a gift after joining their Blogger Collaboration Program. I never shopped on their site before, but I have a few items on my list, since I can't get them anywhere else or are pricier. Plus they offer free international shipping.

Ingredients.

Palette is 5-piece set and contains: 2 all over highlighters, 2 all over shimmers and 1 all over enchancer. Packaging is black, shiny and sturdy, I actually really like it. The only thing that's missing is a mirror, which I don't see as a problem though :). It divides into three compartments (seen on the picture below), I don't think I've seen anything like it before.

In first compartment is a powder product "enhancer powder" (4.2 grams/0.15 Oz.) which is slightly bronzed, has nice tiny shimmer and acts like a really nice highlight. I tried to wear it as an eyeshadow (1/2 of a lid in inner corner), which I think it's great if you're looking for subtle and fresh look, for me, it's not enough pigmented to wear it as an eyeshadow on the lids, but works great as a face and inner corner highlight.

In second compartment you get two creamy products "cream shimmers" (3.2 grams/0.11 Oz.), lighter and darker one. First one has golden shimmer, second one has silver/white shimmer. I, personally, am not a fan of cream shadows, because they usually disappear on me pretty quickly, but I used the second one as my brow highlight the other day and it stayed on its place all day. Once applied it dries pretty quickly, it sets and it doesn't even look like a cream product. I really like that!

In the last compartment are two little pencils "highlight eyeliners" (0.19 grams/0.01 Oz.), again, one lighter (cool toned), other darker (warm toned). My initial though was they would be great for travelling, since they don't take a lot of space. They look great applied in inner corners and look pretty and subtle in the water line as well (white pencil can look bit too harsh). Pencils are creamy and easily bendable. They are my favourite products in this palette :)

 L to R: powder, 2 creams, 2 eyepencils.

Overall, I think it's a great palette if you like wearing highlight and like to have more option. It's not the most inconvenient thing to travel with, but pencils are portable. Overall I think it's a great quality product, true highlight heaven ;)

Check out StrawberryNet.com and let me know what did you order ;)
You can find out this highlight palette HERE.
